Junior Editor – English/Spanish
We are seeking a Junior Editor (contractor) to support the Senior Editor of Medscape’s Spanish edition. This role involves identifying and developing medical news content, coordinating contributors, and ensuring high editorial standards across all published materials.
The Junior Editor will collaborate closely with the Senior Editor to review journals and other sources for potential studies, generate story ideas, assign coverage to freelance writers, edit articles, select and request translations, write news and feature pieces as needed, and produce newsletters. This position requires a solid foundation in medical knowledge, strong writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a collaborative, remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain high editorial standards across all content
Assign and edit articles in collaboration with the Senior Editor
Coordinate freelance journalists, translators, and copy editors
Create, review, and schedule newsletters, as well as organic and paid social media posts
Manage CMS publishing workflows and troubleshoot publishing issues
Oversee editorial tools and vendor relationships
Track and report content performance (e.g., pageviews, sessions) and support data-driven editorial planning
Serve as backup to the Senior Editor, ensuring continuity in editorial decisions, publishing schedules, and urgent matters
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in medical journalism, communications, or a related field
Native or fluent Spanish proficiency
Strong English communication skills (spoken and written, including business writing)
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment
