QA Engineer
About the role:
We’re hiring a QA Engineer (Manual Tester) to join an agile product team focused on public-facing and internal web applications. In this role you will design and execute test plans, find and document defects clearly, and partner with developers, product, and designers to ensure delivered features meet functional, usability, and quality goals. You will primarily perform manual and exploratory testing, own regression cycles, and help shape test strategy - with opportunities to collaborate on automation efforts as the team grows.
Develop, maintain, and execute manual test plans and test cases for web applications, including functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing.
Validate acceptance criteria, reproduce and triage defects, and log clear, actionable bug reports with steps to reproduce, screenshots/logs, and severity/impact assessment.
Perform cross-browser and cross-device testing across supported browsers and platforms; verify responsive behavior and mobile flows.
Verify backend behavior and data correctness using basic SQL queries and API checks (Postman or similar) when applicable.
Run and verify release/regression test cycles; coordinate test execution with product and release schedules.
Work with developers and product owners to define testable acceptance criteria and to clarify requirements early in the development cycle.
Execute basic debugging and log analysis to help diagnose failures and reduce mean-time-to-resolution.
Track defects and testing progress in Jira (or equivalent); update test documentation and checklists to keep knowledge current.
Participate in root-cause analysis for production issues and recommend mitigations to prevent recurrence.
Provide regular, clear status updates on quality risks and test coverage; propose practical mitigation plans where needed.
Collaborate across teams (engineering, design, PMs, support) to improve release quality and testing efficiency.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of QA practices; mentor junior testers as needed.
Support production troubleshooting on an as-needed basis (may include being on a lightweight rotation).
What we’re looking for:
Must have
4-year degree or certificate in a related field preferred - or equivalent hands-on experience.
Prior experience working in agile teams and partnering directly with cross-functional stakeholders.
3+ years of professional QA/manual testing experience on web applications (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
Strong experience designing and executing manual test cases, exploratory testing, and regression testing.
Clear, concise bug reporting with an emphasis on reproducible steps, impact, and diagnostics.
Solid understanding of SDLC and STLC and how QA integrates into agile delivery.
Practical familiarity with web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS) and how to validate UI and functional behavior.
Experience with issue-tracking and test management tools (Jira, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar).
Basic ability to query data (SQL) and validate backend state when testing flows.
Comfortable reading logs and performing basic debugging to help isolate issues.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Attention to detail, good prioritization, and the ability to manage multiple testing activities in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
Experience with Selenium WebDriver (or similar) and familiarity with test automation concepts - scripting experience (Java, Python, or JS) is a plus.
Experience with API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI) and validating API contracts.
Familiarity with performance smoke testing and Core Web Vitals basics.
Experience testing for accessibility (a11y) and SEO implications of UI changes.
Exposure to CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) and how automated tests integrate into pipelines.
Prior experience in legal tech, marketing platforms, or large-scale content sites.
Experience mentoring others or leading QA efforts on a project.
